men and women in Somerset are to swap their bright yellow jackets
for orange uniforms because they are being plagued by bugs.
Patrols have complained that tiny black insects are attracted to
the traditional high visibility clothing.
Bath and North East Somerset Council has ordered orange uniforms
to trial over the summer.
Diana Barkes, school crossing patrol co-ordinator, said: "The
bugs have been a real nuisance to our patrols."
A number of school crossing patrols are to test the new uniforms
over the next few weeks.
Ms Barkes said: "The bugs have flown into their eyes and mouths
as well as getting up their noses and caught up in their hair.
"Drivers should be warned that school crossing patrols wearing
orange coats carry exactly the same powers as those in yellow ones."
